FREE LIBRARY OF PHILADELPHIA
21ST CENTURY LIBRARIES INITIATIVE

LocationPhiladelphia, PA
OwnerFree Library of Philadelphia
Completion DateJuly 2017

The “Building Inspiration: 21st Century Libraries Initiative” will redefine the Free Library as a central resource in every neighborhood in Philadelphia. INTECH will renovate and expand four neighborhood libraries, with the goal of ensuring that strong, community-specific programming and resources are offered in a state-of-the-art space. Construction is occurring simultaneously at the Logan, Lovett, Lillian Marrero, and Tacony branches. Each is adding an elevator, ADA-compliant toilet rooms, and upgrades to mechanical, plumbing, lighting, and electrical systems. A prototype concept design creates a “living room,” teen space, computer lab, mentoring space, expanded children’s area, and upgraded staff workroom. The project is funded by a partnership between the public and private sectors, including a $25 million gift from the William Penn Foundation.
