This project required removing the existing grass football field, running track, sidewalks, and bleachers, and building a new synthetic grass multipurpose field for football, lacrosse, soccer, and field hockey. A new eight lane IAAF 400-meter double-bend running track meets National Federation of High School standards for track meets. The project also included new sidewalks surrounding the track and rebuilding the existing bleachers. Also part of the construction was a new shot put area, long jump pits, and pole vault runways. The project had a three month schedule as construction could not start until after commencement activities and the field had to be ready for the start of football season in September.
A large part of this project was the site package which represented almost half of the entire project budget. It required over 15,000 CY of imported fill and 30 total inches of stone underlayment as part of the new drainage system. The field had to be perfectly level as there is no “crown” for drainage, instead using geotextile fabric and all the underground piping for drainage and storm management. In order to get the field dead level, the subcontractor used satellite-assisted GPS laser grading equipment. The project was completed on time and on budget.
