100 South Independence Mall West was built in 1964 to house chemical company Rohm and Haas. Key to the revival of the Independence Mall historic district, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. Dow Chemical later purchased Rohm and Haas’ business assets, and reduced occupancy needs triggered an adaptive re-use. This project converted the existing basement into a public parking garage with 117 parking spaces and a small management office, served by a modernized elevator that provides direct access to the grade level plaza. Minimal modifications were made to the historic façade, and the conversion did not impact the public plaza and existing ground floor spaces. New mechanical and electrical systems were installed to serve the parking garage.
