The renovation of Stiles Alumni Hall, a 16-story residence for medical students at Drexel University’s Hahnemann Campus, included a complete interior demolition of the existing building down to the concrete structure.
The interior of the building was demolished to the bare concrete, hazardous materials were removed, and 10 new apartments were ultimately created on each floor. The structure was completely rehabilitated, damaged concrete was repaired, and new windows and new roofs were installed. Additionally, an elastomeric coating was applied to all exposed concrete surfaces. The mechanical and electrical systems were replaced in their entirety, and a new cooling tower, boilers, generator, and switch gear were all installed. A new entrance lobby and student lounge were created on the ground floor.
