Construction of a major retail complex featuring 18 major stores on 73 acres posed many challenges, including rerouting a stream, widening a major road, constructing five intersections with traffic signals, and coordinating with all local utilities. The existing soil conditions on this 73-acre site required substantial undercuts and significant grading, including bulk excavation, earthwork and controlled structural fill. An estimated 800,000 cubic yards of materials were handled during the project. An environmentally conscious approach was taken to crush more than 70,000 cubic yards of existing concrete for use as fill in non-structural areas.
