The University of Pennsylvania’s River Fields Park is located between Amtrak rail lines and the Schuylkill Expressway, south of South Street. Based on the Women’s Field Hockey Program’s need for a new synthetic playing surface, feasibility studies were conducted and ultimately concluded that the existing natural turf “B Field” at River Fields Park was the ideal location for this new playing surface. In addition to renovating “B Field” into a synthetic turf field, the existing adjacent Rhodes soccer field was shifted slightly to the south, re-graded and re-seeded. Additional project scope included new irrigation systems, the relocation of existing field lighting, installation of retaining walls, additional spectator seating, fencing, hardscaping and landscaping.
