Under the direction of Buell-Kratzer Powell Architects, this historic renovation encompassed arresting the chronic water infiltration problem, providing universal accessibility for all patrons, restoring the terra cotta cladding and ornamentation, preserving the character of the original 1906 interior, and creating an energy-efficient “green building.” Today the library is once again a major gathering place for the neighborhood.
This is the first LEED registered building by the City of Philadelphia.
